On the comeback trail: Philip Seymour Hoffman takes his bike for a stroll after undergoing detox for heroin abuse

Just weeks ago it emerged Philip Seymour Hoffman had checked in for a 10 day detox after snorting heroin.
And the veteran actor looked to be in good shape as he continued down the road to recovery by hopping on his bicycle for a summer ride through the West Village of New York on Friday.
But the 45-year-old soon took a break from his two-wheeler as he met up with his partner Mimi O'Donnell for a leisurely stroll along the sun dappled streets of the upmarket neighbourhood.

The Oscar-winner looked smarter than usual in a blue long sleeve shirt as he carried a messenger bag over his shoulders.
Completing his casual attire were crumpled jeans, a baseball cap, and brown loafers paired with thin framed spectacles resting snugly over the bridge of his nose.
Meanwhile, his costume designer partner wore a simple red summer dress, cinched at the waist by a silver belt, for the hot day in the Big Apple.

As first reported by TMZ, Philip had problems with substance abuse in the past, but had kicked the habit for 23 years until he had a relapse.
Hoffman says he fell off the wagon more than a year ago, with his problem starting slowly with prescription pills and recently escalating to snorting heroin.
He said the latter only lasted around a week and he quickly realised he needed help, so he checked into a detox facility on the East Coast.
Philip explained he was at the facility for 10 days and credits 'a great group of friends and family' for helping him seek the treatment he needed to get better.

Philip is known for being a dedicated family man, who met his long-time partner Mimi while directing the 1999 play In Arabia We'd All Be Kings.
They have a 10-year-old son Cooper born in March and two daughters, six-year-old Tallulah and four-year-old Willa.
Meanwhile, the heavyweight actor is playing Günther Bachmann in the forthcoming A Most Wanted Man, a story of a Chechen Muslim who illegally immigrates to Hamburg and gets caught up in the international war on terror.
The thriller is slated for release on November 22.
